From the research
MOTS-c is a rare kind of peptide: it's encoded in mitochondrial DNA, the separate set of genes inside your cells' power plants. Researchers first described it in 2015.
MOTS-c has been researched for metabolism, especially how cells take in glucose and use fat for energy. Studies link it to AMPK, the cell's built-in energy sensor.
In animal studies, MOTS-c was researched for how muscle cells handle glucose and for exercise capacity, including in older animals.
Natural MOTS-c levels tend to drop with age, so researchers are looking at its role in keeping metabolism healthy over time.
Based on published research, much of it in lab and animal studies. Individual results vary. MOTS-c is not FDA-approved for any use, and compounded medications have not been evaluated by the FDA for safety or effectiveness.

FAQ

MOTS-c is a peptide, a short chain of amino acids, that your body makes on its own. Unlike almost every other peptide, it's encoded in your mitochondrial DNA. It has been researched for metabolism, how the body uses glucose and fat for energy, and exercise capacity. At Bon it is prescribed by a licensed clinician and compounded by a licensed U.S. pharmacy.
No. Compounded drugs, including compounded MOTS-c, are not FDA-approved. They are prepared by a licensed pharmacy for an individual patient with a prescription.
In October 2026, HHS announced an interim policy (Federal Register 2026-22192) saying it won't take enforcement action against state-licensed pharmacies compounding certain peptides, including MOTS-c acetate as an injection, for individual patients when strict conditions are met. This is not FDA approval, and it may change. State rules can differ.
Research-chemical sites sell powder labeled 'for research only,' with no prescription and no clinician. Bon's MOTS-c is prescribed for you, compounded by name in a licensed U.S. pharmacy from tested ingredients and shipped with what you need to take it.
No. MOTS-c is not prescribed for weight loss, and we don't make weight claims for it. It's been researched for metabolism and energy use. If weight is your main goal, ask about our GLP-1 plans.
Many members ask. Adding MOTS-c to a semaglutide or tirzepatide plan means a separate prescription. Your clinician reviews each one on its own and decides if it's right for you.
As a small subcutaneous injection, just under the skin. Your clinician sets your dose and schedule from your assessment and can adjust it at check-ins.
No completed human trials exist, so long-term effects are unknown. People report a faster or pounding heartbeat, redness or irritation where they inject, trouble sleeping, and fever. Because MOTS-c is studied for how the body handles glucose, tell your clinician if you take insulin or other diabetes medicine, including a GLP-1, or if you have heart-rhythm problems. It's not for anyone pregnant, trying to conceive or breastfeeding, or under 18. Tell your clinician about all medications and conditions.
MOTS-c is named on the World Anti-Doping Agency's Prohibited List as a metabolic modulator (S4) and is banned at all times. USADA says a medical exemption is highly unlikely. If you're drug-tested, don't use it.
If your clinician decides MOTS-c is not right for you, you get a full refund.
